KNIGHTON'S FRIDAY KORNER
Last week, we learned about the seven principles of Kwanzaa and made a Kinara. Also, we discussed the season of winter--what we wear, like to do and what kinds of weather we have. Then we wrote about snow.
In reading, we were assessing Letter Identification, Sound Identification, First Sound Fluency, Phoneme Segmentation, Nonsense Word Fluency, and Word List. Here are the sight words we are working on: will, got, first, and day. We are also rhyming, segmenting, and clapping syllables. Your child should be read to each night for 20 minutes!
In Math, we are reviewing addition. We are using pictures to add and make these numbers. For example, 3 and 4 pumpkins make 7 pumpkins. Also, we will review comparing shapes, counting to 50, and recognizing numbers on ten frames.
Your child needs to continue to practice counting numbers to 30 and comparing plane and solid shapes. Kindergarten is a very important year! Your child is being introduced to basic skills that will help he/she to build a future upon such as appropriate socialization and communication. It is crucial for you to remind your child that he/she needs to focus and listen during the day, so they can learn what is needed for the first grade!
Next week, we will be assessing reading levels and math concepts. Also, we will learn about Dr. Marin Luther King's contributions to our country!
